OT: You'll never know. Kishi will never explicitly state how strong the guy actually is so you can guage his power. He'll remain a 'fairy tale' like hashi.

Madara may be weaker than the SO6P at his prime.But,

He sealed Juubi(-1/2Kurama) instantly , SO6P may have worked hard to do so.
Madara have the advantage to be the third guy to have Juubi's power , he has a lot of knowledge of how those things work , he read the story of Hagoromo and worked on it.
with the SO6P's heritage Madara have the potential to become stronger than Hagoromo was at his prime.
With the fruit , he is going to be stronger.

Technically , but what if a "good" will was a lot stronger than a "bad" one.
If it's going to be a fight of "will" (black staff of Naruto or SO6P against black staff of Madara) , the power you have is not significant but the strengh of your will is!
I believe Madara will lose against those 2 , cause he is not stable , his will is not strong.

We can only assume where Madara is at as far as So6P comparisons go. I will say that Madara is currently as close as you can get to being the So6p without actually some how summoning the real one (No idea how unless he sealed his essence in a scroll). Madara is stoppable, they are just missing the two that can actually stop him. As far as we know, So6P was either unstoppable or in the same boat as Madara in needing a select tag team to end him.. which no one ever needed or wanted to do.

Here is a thought though, back in Sage's time there was most likely a lot less jutsu than there is now since clans where just forming in his time with special abilities (Older and Younger son). So the Sage seemed all powerful in an age where Jutsu had only been around for 40 years at his peak age.
