[Discussion] Is Luffy really that stupid......

We have seen Luffy as a loud, flamboyant, likable character who is no doubt a big fool..typical shonen stuff....but his actions make me wonder that is he really that dumb or he just likes to play the fool and let others carry the responsibilities that seem trivial to him? I mean his traits of selfishness and stubbornness are known to all but his instincts and his ability to understand grave situations without much pondering makes me wonder that he is not that stupid...what do you guys say?

hes stupid and oblivious but his feelings and wanting to protect his friends makes him use his brain and devil fruit in almost like a genuis way..... i mean its pretty cool

luffys battle prowess and overall talent (and willingingness to learn) makes up for his stupididy

also with people like sanji robin and chopper and nami he has enough brains to go around

He decides to take on the biggest and most important tasks himself because he knows that the small, trivial things will either work themselves out or his crew will take care of it. He usually focuses on the point rather than little details.

Hes far from being stupid. The man simply doesn't care.

Though I must admit I perferred Luffy's personality from starting of the manga more.. but then again, thats the same for the rest of the strawhats. Their personalities at the start were better.

He just acts silly, or rather is silly but by no means stupid. You see his ways are lost on the rest- too OP for others to comprehend.
