Is Kakashi Not So Great Without The Sharingan?

OT: If he had lived without it, he would probably be around Gai's level in skill. However the second he was given the sharingan, he became 100% dependent on it.

I wouldn't say that. The manga has proven that one needs speed and reflexes to react in time for Sharingan's Pre-Cog. Similarly, he's the most well-rounded Ninja - capable of using following elements Raiton, Doton, Suiton, capable of tailing, setting traps, good at Taijutsu and close quarters combat in general, great strategy maker etc. That would be an untrue assessment.

It's like saying why would Sasuke needs to fight Sakura and Naruto with his Sharingan. He's great. Sakura improved her taijutsu so Kakashi needed toread her movements and Naruto could use lots of shadow clones

This is what I was thinking.

There's nothing wrong with taking advantage of it, but he became too dependent on it.

Yes. Exactly. You are right, it is a tool. However, without this tool, Kakashi isn't nearly jonin level. Perhaps he would have been had he never acquired it, but he's become too dependent on it to be considered a jonin without it.
