His knowledge of the ninja world is still limited compared to say Orochimaru and Madara but his philosophical nature is what really makes him stand out.

i dont think so, i think shikamaru takes the no. 1 spot. i think my top 3 smartest are Shikamaru, Kakashi, and Itachi. the only reason i dont put itachi as no. 1 is because he couldnt see that he was being used by danzo to kill off the uchiha. i think he should've sided with the third hokage and try to talk them out of it, no matter how fruitless it may seem, its still better than preemptive genocide.
