Is Itachi still under the Edo Tensei?

Kabuto has no control over Itachi. The Genjutsu cast upon Itachi attacked the "Charm Tag" placed by Kabuto which override original control and/or command with a new command such as "Protect Konoha". If Kabuto was to release Itachi from his bind or regain control then he must remove the Tag and/or override the "Charm Tag" physically, instead of remotely, to release the Genjutsu.

Itachi is still a Edo Tensei Zombie with "Free Will."

hes still an edo, hes just not forced by kabuto anymore...weather kabuto can release it or not i dont know, would make the whole shisui uchiha eye useless if kabuto can just be like go away..

i find it more interesting that shisui's genjutsu is powerful enough to over ride edo tensei tags, talk about a super genjutsu...

To you both I don't think the gen took effect on the tag as it is an object and not a person/animal (gen works on the brain) so I think it worked on the mind which is where the tag is....but something is up with itachi because if you look at pain when he dies his eyes goes from black to normal....and itachi eyes are still black

Also I don't think the tech can be release (never seen it done), and kabuto said that if he died it would still work....but itachi said that he would stop it and it fits his mold for him to stop it

He's still an Edo Tensei, yes. Just an Edo whom can do whatever he wants.

Right now, No one knows for sure if he's gonna be a dead man walking forever or Disappear when Edo Tensei is stopped.

All he said was "Edo Tensei was cancelled". The rest is up to Kishi.

The educated guess is when Edo Tensei is stopped, he'll go back to the other-world.

Kabuto has no control over him though.


It probably took a lot of Chakra to perform the technique, let alone control them. Doing it a second time might not be a good idea.

It can be released. Kabuto told Tobi how to do it.
My guess is he cant release just one edo. If he performs hand signs all the other edos will be released. Thats why Itachi is the one going after him. He's going to force to choose between dying or releasing the tech.
