I wonder if anybody asked this before but tell me someone, is Itachi alive again? Will he disappear if Kabuto is no longer able to hold the edo tensei? or is he just a living dead without the help of the edo tensei?

Is that not too plain? There must be some better explanation out there.

As much as I would like to have it so, I disagree. I'd like to see what happens to him once he receives damage or once Kabuto is taken care of.

Well if Kabuto being beaten should return Itachi to like.. being dead, why wouldn't Kabuto be able to de-activate the edo jutsu on Itachi already? It doesn't make alot of sense.. he'll probably go back to being dead for some weird reason eventually.

If Kabuto dies when Edo is still active itachi won't go anywhere, edo will stay active.

But if Kabuto is losing a fight for instance against an edo (maybe Itachi) he must release the edo for all at once rather than just release edo itachi.

so atm itachi is dead but sorta zombified =] so living dead!

He is dead, but is roaming around in Edo form, but will eventually be sealed or disappear.

Itachi is not alive. He's a living dead.

He won't age, he won't get hurt or die. Technically he's a zombie except he has his consciousness intact.

Even if Kabuto is killed it won't stop the Edo Tensei. Kabuto has to release the technique.

Itachi is currently "alive". He decided to take down the Edo Tensei jutsu and is currently in Konoha eating where Kisame and him ate last time for a quick lunch break. After that he'll continue pursuing Kabuto/Orochimaru.
