There's no way to get around the obvious One Piece influence.

Yep FT has copied OP multiple times, for example in the current arc:

- Eternal flame + frozen city = punk hazard
- Treasure Hunter Lala who keeps saying "super" = Franky

Not to mention that the current arc has jsut started...



However Oda striked back with his current arc:
- The "fairies" hunting
- Smile factory hidden under corida coloseum = dragon graveyard
- Luffy fighting in a coloseum = GMG
- Luffy's fake name is Lucy

Copying? No. Heavy Heavy Heavy Heavy Heavy Heavy influence? Yes. Hiro Knows what sells. He has had Naruto and OP to look at for greatness and took some of the best ideas from them and added them to his manga. Some of them are so blatant like Shanks and Gildarts its pathetic. Bad ass character with red hair and facial hair loses their arm in a fight with a beast. Also the strongest in their verse.


But with that said, there is MUCH that isn't copied. The whole concept of magic. That was an original idea from Hiro. What about how they are fighting dragons? Dragons were mentioned from the first few episodes of FT. We never even seen a dragon until Punk Hazard. Hiro couldn't have copied that from OP. He also adds A LOT of fanservice in his manga as well. Why? Because he knows what sells. Thats not just for men too. I know a few girls who like to drool over Grey. Hiro was cleaver enough to make his obvious fanservice with him not so obvious and give him a backstory as to why he likes to run around naked all the time.


Basically, yes. There are a lot of elements in Fairy Tail that are also in One Piece, but not everything is. They are two complete different stories. Now if Natsu was shouting something like "I'm going to be king of the fairies" and trying to find some treasure like the One Coin or something, there could be a definite case on copying. But it's not. It is just heavily influenced, not copied.

(Fighting Festival (Meh) - Tenrou was good though. Fairy Tail's only good arcs. Tower of Heaven was OK. I only liked Phantom Lord for Gajeel.)
