[Discussion] Is it true about Samurai Champloo?

While Samurai Champloo had a great anime, I hear the manga was ass and it got cancelled Lol oh God. Is that true?

As far as I know it was always intended to be a Anime by Watanabe, manga was released after the anime started and was of only 2 volumes. Anime was their major focus, manga can be thought as additional content.
