Am i wrong? I mean Gai is the perfect ninja to take out itachi 8th gate not needed.
Some may say he needs 8th gate to get around susanoo blah blah but when you logically think about it he doesn't and here's why.....
That kills any use of susanoo. Tsukuyomi is also a non-factor as eye contact is required for you to fall for it and Gai has already found a work around here:

That leaves Amaterasu, basic taijutsu(which itachi would be a complete idiot to challenge Gai with) Ninjutsu(katon & suiton) and shuriken jutsu which would easily be overpowered by Gai's gate attacks.
Amaterasu and better intellect is Itachi's only hope but TBH the pressure Gai puts on his opponents with speedy attacks will make it hard for itachi to come up with a effective counter. Though itachi is itachi and you cant count him out completely.
That concludes my thread on why Gai > Itachi mid to high diff simply because itachi doesn't posses the raw power and stamina to stand up to Gai who thrives in those categories.
