Do you guys think Hashirama could have learned Sage Mode on his own? He doesn't seem to have any kind of animal summoning not animal characteristics in his Sage Mode. Being the skilled shinobi he is, do you think Hashirama might have learned to take in natural energy by himself, and learn how to balance natural and his own chakra by himself?

I think it's possible. He might have just learned about nature energy and practiced the method himself the somehow.

No, I don't think so.

The only one who could do it like you say is Itachi

Extremely unlikely.

How on earth would he have even discovered nature energy?

He knew about Rikudo's kinjutsu when Madara tried to revive himself. It's not far fetched to me if he knew about Nature energy somehow. I also think Mokuton has some nature energy aspects because of its properties but that's a little more far-fetched.

Yea I think it's possible. If anyone could do it it would be him, and yeah his powers and sage mode are buddhist related, rather than centering around some animals.

Yes. He can make trees, it wouldn't be surprising if he found out about Nature Chakra on his own.

Exactly what I'm saying. All SM is is properly learning to balance natural energy with their own chakra right? There might be more to it than that but it's not like you need an animal teacher. Nothing about Hashirama's techniques seems to relate to any animal summonings I can think of.
he Invent the SageMode :|
That's not what I'm saying. I'm saying he doesn't have an animal specific SM. He could have learned the principle of SM through some kind of scroll book or maybe someone explained the concept of natural energy for him.

That's what I was thinking as well, his Mokuton in a sense is nature itself.
He's so great nature just gave it to him.
Hashirama is so great, he threatened nature to give him its energy and then got SM Lol

I hope so too, I'd hate for this to not be expanded upon cause SM is supposed to be pretty rare but Hashirama shows up without hinting he's trained with any animals. That's kinda played if Kishi doesn't elaborate.

I feel like your grasping at straws for that one, it doesn't really resemble that to me IMO.

I think it's possible. I mean the So6 paths was the first one to use ninjutsu, he had to have winged that and that's far more unlikely than meditating and getting intouch with energy. Especially since he's a wood style master.

Didn't even think about it like that but you're definitely right. The concept of discovering ninjutsu should be much more complicated than discovery senjutsu. There's always a first person to do something, who's to say Hashirama wasn't the first? But he also could have learned about through scrolls or some other user as I mentioned before.

I think he has to have at least have an accomplice that beats the living wood out of the bastard with a special tool. Otherwise, he would turn into stone. I am not certain how he was before his prime, though.

True that Lol. He probably couldn't have gotten it right on his first try.
