The people in the modern Uchiha clan pre-massacre were flat out fodder?

I mean there was not one person with a Sharingan in the Uchiha clan that made Obito/Itachi sweat or at least escape? They were all (with the exception of Sasuke) killed pretty effortlessly for the most part.

By the time the Uchiha Massacre happened, most Uchiha had not awakened the Sharingan. Only a select few had it, compared to the large majority of Uchiha who possessed the Sharingan during Madara's time. Since a few generations had already passed since then and the Uchiha were no longer in a constant war, I suppose their bloodline thinned out and resulted in the Sharingan becoming a rarity.

I doubt many of them even expected the attack. An intelligent shinobi such as Itachi and Obito would know that the best time to strike is when their victims are sleeping or during the night. Itachi's parents accepted their fate, presumably because they knew the coup would risk of failure and disrupt peace, or didn't wish to fight their extremely talented son.
