Or is Sai really the most boring and bland character in the Naruverse. He isnt even strong, he has the personality of sand paper and his jokes are the most unfunny things ever. Even Ino has done more to advance the plot than he. I rly have no idea what Kishi was thinking making this character......Rant over

I think sai is supposed to appeal to a certain kind of person. Like fans of the series that are like him, or can relate to him in some kinda way. There are a group of people who feel as if they fall under the catogory of "awkward" or outcasts, so i don't think his character is useless, and his little development, and eventual acceptance might be very important to a few people out there.

Conclusion: I don't think sai is useless, he may not have much to do with the main story-line, but he was an important character to create to appeal to certain fans. well played kishimoto.
