Is it just me or is Gaara

Gaara's character oddly spoiled. Even though he was feared, he wasn't that bad off once you really think about it. And this dream of his shows it.
Yeah, his mother die during child birth.
But he had temari and kankuro.
Sure he was ostracized a bit, but he was never alone, because of mothers will, his family, and his sensi.
And because of his power, he normally got his way.

Also, Gaara only problem was really, his lack of sleep. His story may seem bad at first, but once you really look at it, he really wasn't that bad off.

It was cute, but it should've been just a family thing you know, Kishi forced Naruto onto people, Gaara is a personality away from being the male Hinata.

He only survived those assassination attempts, by his father, because of his mother's auto-defense protection...

- Naruto grew up without a mom and dad --- Gaara grew up without a mom but a dad who constantly tried to kill him.

- Naruto was ostracized by the village and never went on a rampage --- Gaara was ostracized by the village and occasionally transformed.. making them fear him even more.

- Naruto didn't know his parents at all --- Gaara was convinced that his mother, uncle and father hated his ass.

- Naruto had iruka sensei and the 3rd hokage who would look after him and give him some sort of comfort in company --- Gaara had .... ??? He had his uncle who later told him his mother hated him*. His father tried to kill him. His siblings were scared shitless of him and most likely decided to ****off elsewhere. His sensei... his sensei most likely didn't give two shits about him; he didn't seem to during the konoha invasion.

As much as I appreciate your alternative viewpoint of Gaara, this is a little too optimistic. Although I'd rather not try compare an abusive relationship in real life to a piece of fiction, I'd be lying if I said it didn't come to mind when I read this thread.

Gaara had a pretty abusive upbringing, which goes hand-in-hand with him being sociopathic. You can't warp a bad situation to try to make good out of it. And you certainly can't say that you don't notice when the situation is blatantly bad, because then optimism just becomes denial. I'd like to agree and say that you're on to something, but seeing how Kishimoto wanted to portray Gaara's childhood as one filled with ostracism and numerous assassination attempts, I'd say its just you.
