Hey dudes and dudettes (and everyone in between)
I posted this somewhere else, but I guess this is the appropriate place. I recently watched Seasons 1-4 of The Boys, which is
a black-humored satire on the superhero genre where merchandise and profit margins trump heroism. The "heroes" (aka The
Seven) are anything but. You have The Deep, a rapist Aquaman. A-Train, a drug addicted Flash. Maeve, a cynical, alcoholic
Wonder Woman. Starlight, a naive hopeful rookie. Black Noir, a silent Deadpool-assassin type. And the narcissistic, sociopathic
Superman Homelander, who has spilled enough blood to flood the entire Eastern seaboard. On the other hand, you have Hero
Academia where, while they are also concerned about merch, profit margins, etc., the Heros actually give a shit about the people
they are saving. Plus, they don't have a ragtag band of malcontents (ex-CIA and revolutionary types, plus one who want to
avenge his girlfriend's death) hiding out and trying to kill them. While the difference is noticeable, I also see they could be similiar
in that in both cases, heroism is measured in profit, merchandising, ranking and other factors. So, I ask could both shows be
alike. Could Hero be The Boys Lite? Any thoughts? And what is your favorite episode/season for either show? Until then, stay
classy Anime Base.
