Is Hagaromo truly worthy of his reputation?

I ask this question because the manga had just heavily implied that he is directly responsible for practically all violence and suffering (including the Shinobi World Wars) because:

1. He gave all the power to only one of his sons, causing a family feud which lasted for generations (with Zetsu only aiding the process even further).
2. He wanted to teach the world chakra manipulation.

He knew the dangers of chakra due to his experiences with Kaguya. Yet he thought in his mind that chakra was necessary as a way to understand people better, and calls himself naive because he never thought that other human beings would weaponise the chakra.

This was after experiences the dangers first hand!

Surely this would destroy his credibility completely.

You know what they say........stories die with age and the sands of time erase everything. But to reconcile for what he did at least he prepared to come back later on to amend his mistakes. If he didn't then i feel everyone would hate him even more.

True, but I just expected a person deemed to be the ultimate sage and god of the world as we know can make such a fatal error. It basically means that his wisdom has limits.

We don't have enough info on him yet to judge that but yes I think he is.

Which is why he shouldn't have passed on his knowledge of chakra for the entire human to use. He saw what chakra did to people. Surely he would've learned by that.

Try to remember that as powerful as Hagoromo was, he was still human and not an all knowing god. I'm sure he was well aware of the evil that men can do. As you mentioned he experienced it 1st hand.

But like Ghandi, the Dhali Lhama, Jesus, Buddha, ECT. You can only teach men the ways of harmony and understanding. It's the individual who must ultimately decide to actually follow the path. Hagoromo is not to blame for how humanity decided to use his teachings.

He taught the way of peace, but others chose not to follow the way of ninshu. And Hagoromo may be wise but he is not all knowing. So yes I think he lived up to the hype. It's those be taught who failed him. Not the other way around.

Two things:

1. You sig is hilarious. We need Ramen Guy as the final villain! XD

2. It's starting to make a bit of sense to me now. But why would he give his power to only one of his sons. This was the main cause for all of the senju/uchiha feuds for years to come.

1. The lion's share of any inheritance always goes to one person .... Have you ever seen a King crown two Heirs?

2. He actually taught people Ninshu ... a way to forge a mental+spiritual link with others, but they developed Ninjutsu instead. Its bit like God gave man fire to cook and keep warm and people used it to burn homes and people.

Woops! I forgot one more thing.

The teaching of how chakra was used, I believe, was not his true fault.

One of his biggest faults was that he split the juubi into nine different paths as a way to keep balance between countries.

I don't know about you guys, but surely one as wise as Hagaromo would have foreshadowed that people were going to use these things as weapons.

As for your #2 : This is where his being human comes into play. Yeah choosing Ashura to be his Successor and giving him his power was a mistake on his part no doubt. And because Hagoromo is who he is, it was a doozy of mistake.

He thought he was doing the right thing but we know how that turned out. And unfortunately it led to what the Narutoverse us dealing with now.

He's a lame character that not only shouldn't have gotten so much wank...but also shouldn't have been introduced to the series.

Number 2 I can understand, but Number 1 from a character perspective for Hagaromo actually doesn't make sense.

This was becaue Hagaromo believed that all chakra should be split equally between people. But for some reason, he didn't do that. He gave all of it to one person, hence planting the seed for an entire generational feud (with Zetsu's help admittedly). On top of that, he was the container for the Juubi, which gave him tons more chakra than his brother.

I think for this reason Hagaromo's hype was taken incredibly out of context. It became myth rather than reality.

"He gave all the power to only one of his sons" < wrong. he couldnt do anything about that, indra was born with great power. im sure he would want to share his power fairly to both of his sons

"He wanted to teach the world chakra manipulation" wrong again. he only gave chakra and wanted humans to connect to each other through it. it was mortal who did that, manipulating chakra which bears ninjutsu

Hagaromo gave the power to restore peace to Asura and not Indra. Of course he couldn't control whether a person is born with more talent due to the unpredictability of genetics. But wouldn't it have been better, as a believer of equality, to split the power for world peace between them both?

When you deny one son, who has a lot of talent (which is something he didn't choose, he was born with it), the ability to create world peace, he would abuse his power. He would be wondering, "Hmmm, I've got all these abilities, I have to use them for something, so why didn't I get equal treatment."

I am aware he was a bit solitary and independant (so was Jiraiya, and nobody hates on him for it), but he still believed in world peace. And his talents would've been greatly appreciated.

But obviously Hagaromo had no foresight as to the circumstances that would happen. Which makes me think he wasn't really that intelligent at all.
