Most would say yes if asked, Oda even said she was yet when you see people make crew join order lists they never include Merry. If Merry is a crew member than Sunny is too right?

I've also seen conflicting ideas in the joining order. Do you guys go with asking order or actual joining order? Usually it goes

Zoro
Nami
Usopp
Sanji
Chopper
Robin
Franky
Brook

That's the order they were asked. But some make the point that Nami never accepted until Luffy beat Arlong and I kind of agree with that. She always tried to find a way out and seemingly planned to ditch them from the start. That in mind the order would look like

Zoro
Usopp
Sanji
Nami
Chopper
Robin
Franky
Brook

Well I live by the 4KIDS opening til I die and all the openings in fact have that order to them. And it's always Nami after Zoro, to be fair though if you did it your way whilst it does seem cooler and neater, then we'd have Usopp leaving the list and then rejoining it after Chopper and Robin have joined the crew thanks to the battle where he tried to kill Luffy and claim the Merry in Water 7.

And i've always viewed Merry as an object, an important one with nostalgic value but it IS a possession that people fight over and is used to get from A to B. It's not King Boat from Windwaker for sure haha

You know Nami actually joined before Luffy beat Arlong(in the second case), the thing is when she asked him for help and Luffy agreed it was more like she was giving up on some facade(hiding her true emotionas) or struggle rather then accepting an offer- if you remember that story part correctly. Plus Luffy-the captain never really gave her the permission to leave. So I'd go with the first list being more accurate either way.

And Merry I see as a boat they considered a nakama because of time spent together and bonds and all the stuff, more like a 0.5 nakama, like a 5yr old playing with 13yr olds that no one takes seriously untill kid leaves and everybody realize they have grown liking to him and be like bruh you a team member too though we all knew you were just a side member untill now and in the beginning(get the idea?).

^^Same thoughts on the Going Merry as Naf. Lol, can't think of a better analogy than that. Though if Oda says the Merry is a nakama, no other way around it. I'd also pick the first list as well. Felt like Nami was apart of the crew whether she planned on betraying them or not.

It was symbolically a crew member. It was the base which connected all the Straw Hat Crew members, even if it was not a living entity. So, I think it is a Straw Hat Crew member symbolically.

Nami only wanted to use the strawhats before arlong, it's just that she developed some type of feeling for them as their short journey went on and thus it's pretty accurate to say that sanji and ussop joined before her

I go by this order
Zoro
Ussop
Sanji
Nami
The rest

Merry was a crew member. There was the whole klabauterman thing and the fact it came to rescue the crew with no one sailing it in the cp9 arc. I guess it doesn't have a join date because no one can say when merry awoke/became the klabauterman.

Not necessarily because Usopp and Nami had different situations prior. Nami refused Luffy's offers every time even though she was sailing with them. She still technically had never accepted the proposal when they helped Usopp and he joined. Usopp then left after Nami joined but he had already joined. So then that brings up the question should he lose his spot if he left and get a new one when he comes back or get his old number?
