Is Gengetsu really equal to Mū?

On the manga, ot was shown that both Mū and Gengetsu died on a stand-off between each other, implying that they were somewhat equal. But based on feats it appears that Mū its clearly stronger than the other. So... Is Gengetsu being underrated? Mū overrated? Its baseless hype on Gengetsu's behalf? Discuss.

Yes they're equal, by portrayal and by feats they are on the same tier (but i can't think on how did gengetsu kill Muu and Muu kill gengetsu at the same time)

One's invisible, one is an illusion. One can fly and the other takes the form of water/oil. They just seem really hard to kill. They both have clones that can save their ass as a last resort and leave their selves in a weak state.

If I had to guess Gengetsu probably somehow took out Half Muu clone, and Muu with or without his clone took out joki boy. Then like how most rival battles end in the series it was a close quarters battle in which they then killed each other.

Yes, they are around the same level.

They probably ended up exhausted and in a taijutsu skirmish when the killed each other (after countering each others techniques for a while).

Gengetsu acknowledged that Gaara and Onoki went after Muu first based on the fact that he was stronger, but that likely had more to do with the fact that Muu had a deadly Kekkai Genkai that most couldn't combat against whereas Gengetsu clearly had the capability in doing so.

By portrayal, they're equal. By feats, possibly equal as he contended with 2 Kage, Gaara having a disadvantage, sure, but Onoki couldn't do anything against Gengetsu despite having an elemental advantage.

I think joki boy exploded and killed Muu, while he was performing Jinton on gengetsu's body, so they both watched eachoter die, while Gengetsu had his legs blown up by jinton, he was looking Muu's almost desintegrated body by joki's explosion and viceversa. That's why they both knew they killed eachother.
