I ask this because there is a misconcpetion between these 2, what's the difference between of them?

Yeah, but I recommend watching Full Metal Alchemist Brotherhood since it follows the manga really well (they do cut out some things though that's why I also read the manga). Brotherhood is a great ride.

FMAB follows the manga is way better quality more fights better storyline etc, And is just epic.

FMA is basically filler and boring.

fmaB is better, but Fma is good in hs own way, it's more emotional in my opinion and it has one of best ost's in anime existence

Do you know if there is a chronological connection between FMA and MFAB?

Yeah, let me explain:

FMA was aired a few years prior to FMAB. Due to the anime catching up to the manga, the FMA anime studio had decided to continue the story by themselves after the first 20 episodes or so (that were written according to the manga), which makes the rest of the FMA anime episodes "fillers". FMAB was aired a few years afterwards being based entirely on the manga, taming superior qualities, such as animation, plot progression rate (the 20 episodes in FMA that were based on the manga lasted only approximately 10 in FMAB), etc etc.
IMO, FMAB is a superior anime. However, FMA is one of my favorite animes as well, thus it remains worthy of watching. I must suggest you to follow the same path that I chose and watch FMA first and continue afterwards to watch FMAB. You wont be disappointed. Enjoy ;)

So if for instance I watch from the former the canon episodes then if I continue with FMAB, will it be its exact sequel. That being said, if I choose to do otherwise, will there be any gap that I won't be able to understand?

FMA:B is very good, and good animation. The ending left me a bit confused, but all in all it's awesome.

The differences between FMA and FMA:B is that FMA is invented, it doesn't follow the manga, thus is like watching a filler arc from Naruto, for example. FMA:B follows the manga, it is the real story, plus it's more recent, so its quality is 100% better than FMA's.

So if you are watching it, watch FMA:B.

Yeah but mnay people say that FMA does cover, at least partly, material of the manga so what confuses me is that if I start watching FMAB, then I will have lack of knowledge based on information that was presented on FMA.

The first episodes of FMA cover the manga, but afterwards it is all invented because it catched the manga. FMA:B covers all those episodes, plus the remaining manga that was not covered by FMA.

So you just need to watch FMA:B, basically xD.
