The sage didn't fight the bijuu alone, he had his brother with him. This brother, if you go and look at the manga, looks extremely similar to what Madara became when he got the Juubi

It's been mentioned a lot.

If you were looking for a "OMG" response, then sadly there won't be. This doesn't change the fact that he created a moon on his deathbed - a feat on a scale miles beyond anything else in the series... besides his mother.

Also, this doesn't really change that much. We found out that he and his brother fought he Juubi and sealed it within them. Logically, they got half each meaning the original Juubi was MUCH stronger then we thought. He had help, but the foe was also stronger- it evens itself out.
