Actually it seems like A LOT of people are jumping on the Gai bandwagon, until he dies.

Gai didn't really do much to Madara, Madara got back up asking if Gai could keep going.

i think it's more so they are tired of him doing nothing. we all know that he is powerful, but we don't really know by how much. he has literally did the bare minimum since becoming a jin. all he has done was use the onmyoudon, and fly. at least obito threw in some bijuu dama and used the onmyoudon to make varied constructs to make it interesting, and made his spikes flare up. people want to see him do a whole bunch of crazy jutsu like he did before he became a jin. maybe kishi is waiting till naruto and sasuke come back to show what he's made of.
