Is entering debate tournaments really worth it?

I know their is a lot of people here who love to debate. No offense to you people but I just don't think it's worth it. Im against debate tournaments. Because you have to spend so much time and thinking power to write a wall of text explaining how your character would win a battle, even if their your favorite character still who has time for that? It's just a fictional book. You could use that time on something relevant. Like getting a job, doing your homework, studing, etc. The only thing you'll get from winning a debate tournament is respect. But that's respect over the internet. Which doesn't mean much. You'll never have to associate with these people face to face so why do you care about getting their respect? And even then not many people rep you just because your a good debater or you made a good argument, most of the rep comes from the guys that make the sigs and avatars. And do the judges even read all of that? Im a GREAT reader but even I can't read those walls of text that the debaters make. They expect you to give the manga scan for every argument that you make. Why most we go through the trouble of searching through 641 chapters when they already know what happened? It seems really troublesome to go through all of that over like I said a fictional book.

You know what else you could use for getting a job, doing your homework, and studying? Not posting 2500 times, viewing anime/manga, or "insert medium of entertainment here". So in regards to debate tournament participation: it's a hobby just like everything else. It's fun for some people, and it's their opinion to be involved in it. They must value the participation in some way.

Ummm, I've been here ever since Feburary of 2012, so of course im going to have 2500 posts. Most people have way more than that and they haven't even been here as long as me.

Watching anime/manga isn't as time consuming since you can watch at your own pace. Whereas in a debate tournament you have to have an argument ready by at least a week.
