They don't have any freewill. They are merely puppets and Pain is the puppeteer. So to answer your question: no they posses no self awareness

No they are not. Nagato channels chakra through lifeless corpses to "reanimate" them. He primarily speaks through Deva Path, but if at any time another Path is speaking, then it is Nagato's own doing; choosing to talk through that specific path.
