Computer science is a good major. Me being a computer science major myself, I enjoyed studying it and am enjoying doing a Postgraduate study in the related field. Just like any other field, take it up if and only if you are intrested in it. If you are taking the subject just for the pay, you'll regret it bud.

Do you like coding? Because by hacking and related stuff you mean you want to become a hacker, then you don't really need a university degree for that. but if you mean by something related to consulting on Information security, then yeah you are ready to go.

Computer Science is definitely a great programme with high job prospects.
I'm an Electrical/Electronic Engineering Senior and I found the Computer Science courses I took very interesting and fun..
You can also start your own start-up really easily if you have a penchant for the programme.

It is interesting indeed, especially as it is such a vast field; you can choose the field you are working in. Watch Youtube-Videos and read literature about it and decide whether you are interested. Whether you will have time for family and friends? Not more or less then with other good jobs, whether engineer, doctor, whatsoever. Depends on the field and position you have. You can be just a programmer or a project manager.

Hackers become hackers through interest in PC related things. If you just wanna have the reputation but are not interested in understanding what you are doing, you may become a Script-kiddie as well. :b But if you are interested, go ahead.
