[Discussion] Is bullying getting less serious

Before I go off to bed I wanted to discuss one last thing. Bullying over the years.

Now: Bullying like this is just stupid, no one should take this seriously. But yet children commit suicide over it. Suicide.

Before: And then bullying before was different. The kid and you didn't get along, but no one ever died, no one hatefully despised you. And usually you ended up friends. Or were just rivals, you didn't want to kill each other. Have you seen the Karate Kid (1984)

Bullying is a problem but cyber bullying is pretty avoidable. Just block people who you think are cyber bullying you on whatever website you're a part of.

In a way cyber bullying is worse than old-style bullying because it attacks individuals psychologically and socially. At least with the old type of bullies you can fight back, and have bruises as clear evidence. Not so much on the nets, it seems. And the social activity on the nets seems to be taken pretty heavily by the newer generation.

I understand what you're saying, bullying is a big issue, it's always been. We don't live in a world where all your friends help you, you are guaranteed to succeed, bullying is frowned upon. We live in a world where who we believe are friends can talk behind our backs, you have to work really hard for success and bullying is blamed on the victim, not the person actually doing it. Cyber bullying is usually most effective against someone who is vulnerable. Other than that most just brush them off. But either way unfortunately most adults nowadays could care less about bullying, they take it as it's not a bad thing. Personally if someone bullied my little sister i'd go to jail. I don't take it lightly. I wasn't the nicest kid when I was little. I made fun of people but didn't do them any real harm with physical injury I should say. But I asked for forgiveness soon after. I may not be a parent but I would step in if they pulled anything on my sister.

That is not necessarily true that in the past no one had ever killed themselves over bullying or any form of oppression, however in current times society and pressure combined with daily frustration has caused stress levels for all ages to escalate dramatically.

I have noticed this quite a bit. Either kids really do not give a crap about what other people say to them, which was me, or they over think things and really take everything seriously and personally.

As that should be the solution, some kids just have a hard time making the decision. Because they don't want their friends or the bully to notice and make everything worse. Bullying is just a hard topic to handle at points. But cyber is a little easier to handle with the block button, which many forget about.

I think kids today are starting technology too early. Some are responsible, which others just use it to cause problems.

Agreed. Parents who tell their kids that the world is full of fluffy bunnies and cotton candy are to blame for these oversensitive cry babies.

I remember when I was "bullied" in fifth grade. Kids made fun of me for liking anime and rock n roll. A few months back I realized they weren't really bullying me, they just disagreed. They would say "Anime isn't that, great. Why do you even like it are you Japanese?" And it would offend me, but looking back now i realize they were just making jokes and fun.

It is easy! but that's my point. These kids are just that... kids. Few are mature enough to give up these things even if it's for their own good.

I do, and bullying is wrong. But thats not the point.

Kids should be able to communicate better and the internet allows people to be harrassed in laughable ways that they take too seriously

Cyberbullying has become far more common and even effective for one simple, commonly misguided idea: "I am protected by a screen, therefore I am able to say what I want and not have any repercussions. Everyone else can go f**k themselves."

Simply because there is network barrier between you and the world around you, does not necessarily entail that you are safe, one has no idea just who they may be attacking at first until their victim counters by either appearing on their doorstep with a weapon and purpose, or turns to cause their lives misery by stealing their identity, credit card information, etc.
