Possible but if he was throwing it, why is he doing it sideways and not overhead to make sure it goes straight? Naruto may have had to do that but that's FRS...

Edit: Also if it was an air palm'd rasengan which would be nice, then wouldn't it be a push motion? Like a higher up his body kamehameha.

Maybe thats why its small, to make it easier to throw and when it hits it'll explode like the rasenshuriken

That's assuming the Rasengan doesn't lose shape and energy in the process. But in his case, I'll leave that as a possibility until proven otherwise.
