Yes, he lied to them and didn't tell them he was a god the whole time. They fought he was some weak fool created by Madara. He is a genius. He also beat Madara, let's not for get that.

His feats don't make him a "God" bro, if anything they make him the biggest deceiver in the series (the one who played/fooled them all) and a bit of a coward.

And he didn't defeat Madara in battle (tricked him then got him from his back). He didn't even physically help his mother (the one with God status) in her battle against two kids who were using the power of his brother (another one with God statues).

Unless of course you're talking about the popular culture definition of a god which is simply: a relatively powerful being. And if so, then pretty much any shinobi in the NV is a god since they are all superhuman. In fact we'd also be gods as well depending on what's the reference point.
