Is being 'the main character' an excuse to keep Naruto's default costume?

Is being the main character a reason to keep the same costume?

Question up there.

I've been wondering how come Sasuke, who is also a main character has gotten like 4 costume changes compared to Naruto, who hasn't gotten any. And I'm only talking about in Part 2, but even if I include part one, Sasuke has had 6 costume changes since he had 2 in part one. The first was the blue Uchiha gound, the second was the Black costume.

Naruto on the other hand, has only went from blue to black.

And the more I think about it, the more frustrated I get, because Naruto as a character has so much potential as far as costumes go, but he's constantly stuck with that old orange jumpsuit. And really, there's no reason for him to NOT have changed costumes at least once throughout part 2 (I don't count that sage mode costume since it was just a jacket with a scroll to the back).

But what do you think?

It's just easier for Kishimoto.
Also Fun Fact: The sand siblings have the most costume changes after Sasuke

I think that Sasuke's many costume changes represents his wavering ideals and goals, while Naruto's stagnant and unchanging ideals have remained the same, like his outfit.

No it's BS from Kishimoto.

I understand that Naruto is the flagship of the series and that his appearance is something of a trademark, but Kishi has no excuse for not changing it up. The jumpsuit is pure shit now and I have had enough of it.

But for sales purposes I can see why Kishi keeps it. Helps market his character better and helps him stand out. But I still hate it.

I mean in a general sense. Sasuke has turned his targets from Itachi to the village to the Juubi. He is constantly changing, like his outfits. But Naruto has had the same ideal since the beginning of the bloody series, i.e. to make his own path (Resolved during 1st arc with the death of Zabuza and Haku) and to become Hokage (Seen in the first episode.).

Another good point too. I hate that in order for him to stick out, he has to wear loud colors like orange and black, there are plenty of other things he could wear. For starters, he could keep the same colors and switch up the style of clothing, like the movies do and give him short sleeves.

I feel like Kishi just neglects his design potential.

Exactly, Narutos mind has matured a lot over the series, even if he has had the same goals, his frame of mind has gone through many stages. The guy should have a few changes of clothes. The cloak from Sage mode should of reappeared.

Several reasons all valid...

It's easier on artist(s).

Fan's can easily tell pre or post time skip.

Makes Naruto a bit more distinct and reinforces the idea that he is still a Genin (no vest outfit).

The better question is...is a main character a legit excuse for manga name?

As for artists, I've already responded to that.
As a certified artist and author of a very popular manga, Kishi is (note my choice of words, is, not should be, but is) more than capable of making a lousy costume for Naruto. It's also lazy or uncreative on his part that he has to make him use such loud colors as orange and black just to emphasize his 'being there'. Kishi can do better, it's just that he won't let himself.

We can tell that by height and forehead protector color. Blue represents pre and black represents post... why would this even be a reason? He's moved on from his youthful years, and it's easy to tell when he's in a flashback. His facial structure is also more developed and skewed after time skip.

Already kind of responded to this in the first paragraph. And it's true that he's just a genin still, but he can still maintain some type of variation and independency as a genin. Look at Sasuke, he went from blue to black and got those little accessories. Naruto can at least go from long sleeve to short sleeve, or use something.

I just said it because I'm glad it wasn't on manga, which shows it's not canon..

And you're right, I want to see that Tailed-Beast Battle Royal which happened after chapter 570. We are all sick and tired of fillers.
