Survived? There is hardly any news of them in last 17 months. Last call was from the desperate guy saying his passport was with employer so he cannot even leave that easily and how bad situation was getting where he was. Some people were able to return some were not... The neighbor whose relative is among them they have no hope either. Especially when news like this come out:

Government keeps saying they are in contact with Iraqi authorities and through other channels too and that they are still alive somewhere. But families think government is avoiding the declaration of death.

Well i think they are dead and thy just try to not cause any panic or sadness
