Shikamaru didn't let the idea of revenge consume him. He didn't join the enemy to take Hidan down. He also asked for help, which is something Sasuke never did.

Kakashi probably didn't mind Itachi dying, he just didn't want Sasuke to ignore his friends and the possibility of a better life.
