BEIJING: Relatives of a 23-year-old woman from northwest China have claimed that she died after being electrocuted while using her iPhone.

The older sister of victim, Ailun, said on Sina Weibo, the Chinese equivalent of Twitter, that Ma was electrocuted while trying to answer a call on her iPhone while the device was charging, Xinhua reported.

"(I) hope that Apple can give us an explanation. I also hope that all of you will refrain from using your mobile devices while charging," her post read.

The post has gone viral online, with many forwarding the message and warning others of the dangers of using mobile devices while they are being charged.

Ma's father, Ma Guanghui, confirmed that his daughter was electrocuted, adding that her body showed signs of electrocution.

Ma, a resident of Xinjiang's city of Changji, was previously employed as a flight attendant at China Southern Airlines.

Ma's sister said she hopes to seek justice from Apple.

Apple on Sunday said the company felt "deeply sorry for the unfortunate accident" and expressed condolence to the victim and her family. It said it would have a thorough probe into the case.

Sure it wasn't one of those Chinese Knockoffs? Not a Mac fan myself, but the Chinese are known to make knockoffs.

Even if the iPhone was really to blame for her death, and human error wasn't involved, I'm sure there would be a better chance of dying from a rabid beaver who broke into your house with the sole intent to kill you. Millions and millions and millions and millions (and millions) of iPhones, iPads and other mobile devices have been sold, and as far as I'm aware, this is the first time such a thing has occurred.

I know a little about electronics myself, a wall outlet in china supply 220 - 240 volts of electricity, enough to kill anyone.

however so much voltage would fry the iphone on contact, so the charger you use actully just lower the voltage to something like 9 volts, that will sting a lot but defenitly won't kill you.

either the charger was damaged or her skin was wet. or this is chinese propaganda to try and beat apple so that thier companies would rule the market, this is not the first time they tried that. a company called GooPhone released their android device, called GooPhone I5, with a design ripoff of the iphone 5 and "the same" hardware. just so that when apple ships theirs they can sue apple for copying the GooPhone design (which GooPhone copied from apple). also in china you can't use google or gmail, only a chinese search site and email system.

this is not racsim against the chinese people, just an opinion on chinese govermant and companies. but they are not doing anything illegal as of now, just not fully ethical.

all in all, i am not afraid to use my phone while it is charging, not more then using a remote control or an electronic watch.

It could happen also with other electrical devices .

Are they sure her hands were dry when she answered the phone..X.X.. just asking.

that is right..it can happen with any other electrical instrument

indeed..damage could have occured due to the high voltage..
but its not about china and high voltage only..
there is a possibility that..if power goes off for a while..
at the time of coming back...it mght come with much more force than regular..meaning..voltage can go much more higher than its normal value..and this may result into some damage or literally a blast (doesnt matter..if your skin is wet or not)
it can happen with anyone and in any country..

so be safe people

ohh and i just read another news..

Man sues Apple for his porn addiction

A self-confessed porn addict is sueing Apple after he claims he became so hooked on watching rude videos that his wife left him.

Tennessee man Chris Sevier, 36, has filed a 50-page complaint with the state's supreme court in which he slams the fruity firm for failing to install a blue movie filter on new devices.

He wants Apple to make sure customers aren't automatically allowed to watch pornography, which he brands a "silent poisoner" and blames for everything from *** trafficking to the exploding number of late night commercials for Viagra. He is seeking damages from the company.

lmao..apple got a lot of work to do
