so ive always had a gut feeling that the plot would include sasuke wanting to be hokage even though it was always narutos goal. at first i thought that would ruin the story because after all it was narutos life long dream, however after reviewing the manga and anime i noticed that maybe it was a perfect plan to show narutos growth and to reinforce the changes in the shinobi world.

itachi said when he was reanimated that a great shinobi is one that leads from the shadows and doesn't seek glory.

even though he had good intentions he always wanted to become hokage to be acknowledged by everyone which in some way was seeking to be glorified as a hero so that he wouldnt feel lonely...now that sasuke wants to become hokage i think that naruto will abandon that goal understanding that protecting the villiage is the number one priority not becoming hokage to be acknowleged. also unlike hashirama naruto will indeed fight for sasuke to be accepted showing the diference between when tobirama pursuaded hashi to become hokage over madara. it would show his character development and how as we grow our goals change to fit who we are now. also sasuke becoming hokage despite what he has done will restore the uchiha name and will surely change sasuke into a better man and show his growth as a character abandoning his hate and instead wanting to protect the only thing he has left.

not a chance. There is no way Naruto will give up on his goal just because Sasuke decided he wants to be one too. Sasuke will have to grow up and accept he can't always get his way. There is no chance the villagers will trust Sasuke enough to make him Hokage. Sasuke's true test will be on how he reacts if his friend and rival is chosen instead. Will he accept and cooperate, or rebel like Madara did.

^This right here. Well said. I get the feeling the fight between Naruto and Sasuke will be more like the fight between hashirama and Madara for the title of Hokage.

Madara was betrayed by all and you simply say he went rebel? :xylon:

i feel you thats exactly how i felt before but you know as a big twist and logical explaination for it this would be the only way to do it without kishi getting super flamed for it....i mean it also seems kishis been foreshadowing narutos change because he had pretty much put hokage on the back burner to save sauske and in all honesty what real reason did naruto have for becoming hokage? hes pretty much already attained everything an hokage would get from a social standpoint everyone sees hes a hero. i can honestly say i feel like he will become a wandering sage much like jiraya.

Sasuke would make out to be the worst kage ever

i know...but the way kishi has written the story its the only way to go...i mean sasuke reasoning for wanting to be hokage now makes more sense than narutos reasoning. naruto wants to be ackonwledged but he has that and more...sasuke wants to protect the leaf because he wasnt able to protect his brother or his clan the leaf is all he has left(assuming this is his actuall thinking)

narutos goal now is to protect his friends and save sauske. what better way to show personal growth then to understand that letting sasuke become hokage might be the only way to save him and show him that hes not alone? naruto understand sauske from that point of view and this is where i feel the manga theme comes into play after all they are shinobi...the work in the shadows and self sacrifice.......but technically we can argue that naruto and sasuke arent hokage material they are jus power house ninjas...shikamaru and kakashi are definatley more hokage ready if we are being technical

... they're seventeen, surely they need a few decades before either one of them is up for being a Hokage candidate.

If something happened to Tsunade now, then wouldn't Kakashi take up the mantle? Isn't that what the Kage wanted before? No one said; "Make Naruto Hokage!" and for good reason, he's a baka.

And well, if something happened to Kakashi as well... then I would stop reading ;)

lol i explained that in another reply neither one of them is qualified at this point, but i jus wanted to figure out y kishi took the route he did for the manga becaause quite frankly if in fact sasuke is 100% good he jus snubbed naruto by letting hashi tnj him outta revenge. after all itachis main purpose was to pre plan sasukes future as the savior/avenger of his clan by fueling his hatred toward him. Then had a plan to get sasuke back on the good path through naruto and every plan he had back fired on him and even when it went right it wasnt naruto it was hashirama lol.

Hmm.

I always imagined him going more the way of... ANBU. As in taking up what Danzo's role was, or supposed to be, and supporting Naruto by doing what he couldn't.
... which would be a list of things a mile long.
That and following more along the lines of Itachi and Shisui...

(About Shisui's teachings to him) "Self-sacrifice… A nameless shinobi who protects peace within its shadow… That is a true shinobi."

(To Itachi) "…You're my best friend and the only one I can count on… Protect the village… and the Uchiha name."

... a focus, even in death from Itachi about protecting the name of the Uchiha Clan so yeah - that combined with Sasuke's original declarations; his ambitions were to get stronger, "kill a certain man" and "revive my clan" and get revenge.

He's gotten stronger; equal to/surpassing Naruto
Itachi is dead.
Danzo is dead.
He's had some truths revealed and 'grown' by Orochimaru's ideals, no longer being manipulated by Itachi, himself or Madara.
Resolved issues with Hokages, somewhat.
The truth of Itachi's 'secret mission' isn't widely known therefore their reputation is somewhat intact, as much as it can be what with Sasuke turning international criminal, Obito being revealed as Tobi and Madara leading the slaughter.

All in all - due to Itachi's secret remaining largely in tact - I have some hope of Itachi's dreams/plans being fufilled.

How do you think this will work out for the near-future though? I'm struggling to picture Sasuke strolling back into Konoha and picking up where he left off.

Interesting read.. I wish they could just share the position though, to stop Sasuke going awall and for Naruto to forfill his dream.
