I didn't know that the cells had a trick to them, that they can turn into tree-cancer or that the abilities they give could be removed. I'll have to watch the Danzo battle myself. I always used to just skip over it, but maybe I would have known this if I watched the whole thing.

Given who was present at the battle, are Sasuke, Tobi, and Karin the only people who know? I mean, they might not know as in understand the mechanics of what was happening, but they could have been aware that Danzo's wood-style ability was gone and if Sasuke returns to the battlefield and confronts Madara he could connect the dots and defeat him. I'm still wondering about that interview (could have been fabricated though) where Kishimoto says Madara is a perfect villain with zero weaknesses, because that trick with the cells sounds like a flaw or weakness.
