This thought is going through my mind from long time, whenever I answer 'versus' thread, how much intelligence dominates, as Intelligence had played key role in few battles, consider following battles. Shikamaru Nara vs Hidan:
We all Asuma Sarutobi wasn't able to beat Hidan and Kakuzu duo despite of having better battle skills as compared to Shikamaru, but Shikamaru was able to defeat Hidan, who seemed almost immortal at one point of time, what is the reason?? His intelligence. He was able to plan the entire battle and act accordingly (don't forget he even helped in defeat of Kakuzu, by using his blood), in short Intelligence plays key role.(People will argue by saying that Hidan was defeated due to Intel that Shikamaru had, don’t forget Shikamaru was the one who figured out Hidan’s technique..) Sasuke vs Danzo:
Consider this one, Sasuke was able to defeat Hokage candidate only because he was smart enough and had Karin on his side(sensor techs) and yes don't forget Danzo had Senju DNA, and a hand full of Sharingans, still Sasuke was able to defeat him, reason intelligence (remember how he figured out about Sharingans with the help of Karin's ability to sense chakra, and find a counter to Danzo’s sharigans??)
These are only two examples, there are even more examples where Intelligence played an important role in battle, especially in Itachi battles, so my point is don't guys think we should take intelligence into consideration, and attach more significance to it??
Conclusion:- I am not saying Shikamaru solos Juubi, but still he can give good fight to MANY OTHER SHINOBIS.
So Intelligence plays an important role in the battle which most people don’t consider while replying to versus threads..
shikamaru would need to seriously prepare for the OP villains of the story.. if meeting them the first time in a death match he would die.. his brain tells him to run / hide however ... he would need a team with him..
yep u should also add:
Kakashi vs Zabuza(in the mist)
shikamaru vs temari(in chunin exams)
naruto vs neji(in chunin exams)
there also intelligence and smartness played an important part in their victory.
Shikamaru essentially lost the first time. While it's true that he figured out Hidan's tech on his own, he would've died had he not come prepared. His intelligence wouldn't benefit him much if he's facing someone without intel.

Kakashi vs Zabuza(in the mist)
shikamaru vs temari(in chunin exams)

Yes Shikamaru need team because he isn't as strong as other OP villain, but he can think about a large number of strategies, which make him capable defeating many other shinobis thanks though..

That's why I said many other battles but few people underestimate intelligence and smartness common example a guy said before few days,Sasuke's genjutsu>Itachi's genjutsu.
Wtf is this? He is one of the top intelligent ninja in Naruto; it was no surprise he understood it.
OT: I agree, but raw intelience(which is not backed up by highly effective offenses) can not be easily applied in a vs matchup, since you have to figure out a strategy which may or not may not be performed by the said intelligent character. İt may seem streched in certain conditions, and many battles for Shikamaru can't just proven by a mere "he is intelligent he will figure out something and win", they are more like speculations. For ex. he is more intelligent than Lee...yet he would lose. Badly. Unless he has a month of prep and a master plan makes him somehow overwhelm an opponent who has much more effective offenses than him. Which can be achieved in a streched scenario.
LolSo how do you think Madara lost to Hashirama even if he was OP as f*ck??
He lost because Hashirama was clever to use wooden clone at the end because he knew that Madara doesn't have enough chakra to see through it..
