Is intellectual talent like IQ and can it be inherited? Would it explain why so many Greek Philosophers existed, they were passing on some seemingly rare and currently absent philosopher gene?

If it is genetic and correlated with a type of intelligence, should people who show this talent be encouraged to voice their thoughts and opinions? A lot of people perceive being intellectual as arrogant but appreciate academic intelligence, even if the "intellectual" person isn't being condescending.

Isn't there studies about being able to manipulate children who's yet to be born to be able to get smart like gene manipulation and such? For me intelligence has mostly been about drawing parallels and seeing patterns between things.

its not a gene as much as its a way of thinking. if your parents have a certain outlook youll most likely come up aware of that same outlook until youre old enough to abandoned the one thats been instilled in you or continue it

The Greeks had so many philosophers and intellectuals because it was popular at the time, sort of like sports nowadays. They would drill themselves constantly and compete as well.

Makes more sense.

Where the hell did that popularity go?

I ask myself that too haha.
Nowadays, people who think less will get ahead in life and the rest of us will isolate ourselves from moronic everyday society and hang out on forums... Go NB.

well sort of but not really, especially since they had sports..

its more because Greece wasnt under authoritarian rule like the empires before them. so people had freer thinking and more room to debate ideologies. theres always been philosophers once sea trading started but the greek empire being divided into states that were independent in philosophy for the most part, brought up more debates of course. once it was united then the philosophies werent really booming

but it being one of the oldest western civilizations plays a big part in it as well. but the Egyptians also had a lot of philosophers and were into metaphysics like the greeks, as well as the Phoenicians. but because the greeks had such an influence on Roman culture a lot of there philosophers and theories carried over

Yeah they had sports in which they competed it, as well as drama, literature and all sorts of art forms. And it was more popular to the Greeks than it is to us, due to the reasons you listed. I just can't be bothered typing so much out. Kudos to you for your effort.

I also think that religion had a lot to do with it, as Christianity pretty much frowned upon intellectuality and deemed it "work of the Devil". Cause that makes so much sense haha.

well i wouldnt say its not important to us though is my point, maybe to some but im sure it was the same in Ancient Greece, people have different priorities in life

but people argue philosophy, literature, art and drama all the time, its just mostly on the internet now because thats were we've advanced too

I think intellect has a lot to do with how you are raised and how you live. I had a high intellect when I was younger but lately I am below average, I'm sure I can do great things anyway but I'm not someone who would get really good grades at this point.
If I had kids I would want them to have the opportunities to grow intellectually, have a library for them to read, have a piano for them to learn, let them have some sport to practice etc.
I don't know if it's about genetics, I think it's very empirical. After ancient Greece I don't know if there have been a lot of famous philosophers from there.

I think to a certain extent of intelligence it's all on how you are raised. But when you're talking about the Einsteins or Nobel prize winners, I think they were born with traits that allowed Them to become so smart

A lot of people are conflating intelligence with IQ.
