Yup. And this is the main reason why Tsunade is also underrated. People think she lost to a chuunin level character, when Kabuto was said to be on pair with an elite jounin level ninja.

It isn't so hard to think considering one of the main themes in the manga is "younger generation surpasses the older one" and this applies to successor-teacher relationship.

By that logic all clans would be stay at a certain level.

He had a particular affinity for gates, and Kakashi said it himslef that it is surprisng to see a kid being able to open 5 gates since that technique is hard to achieve even for many talented ninja.
He can surpass Gai in multiple skills; usage of gates more, weaponary, getting a bit drunk xD, being more intelligent, new taijutsu techniques, more speed, more strength, larger AoE of attacks anything can happen.

People just don't like most for some reason, they are already among the best ninja in their villages at certain skills. Tsunade sent Team Gai for rescuing a kage of an ally also Team Kurenai's students for a very important scouting mission out of every ninja, we all know what whole Ino-Shika-Cho did in war arc.

Also yeah, Lee is bound to surpass, or being at the same level at him. Nothing much to argue, it is hinted chapters ago also one of the main themes is new generation surpassing the older one:

How the hell is Deidara overrated? He got screwed the most by Kishimoto and has no backstory as well. He's such an underdeveloped character I've seen so far. People still like "shitting" on him. lol

Has to be Shino. I mean, what with his new jutsu, he can essentially solo you with a touch.

Honestly? Agreed on the Shino front but Shino is pretty slow and there's plenty of ninja who can kill you with one touch, that summoning jutsu only really works on large opponents.
