COAT is and has always been used to amuse and entertain Otsutsuki creatures. Hagoromo broke the COAT line and thats what lead to his brother and him parting ways. (he in essence became the rebel of the family) He wanted the people to develope own lifes and personalities. Live with free will. Ergo he created Ninshuu in an effort to do this, but failed. Beacause the inception of human life was COAT to begin with, and flawed from the start.

So Madara wanted to go back to the roots of humanity, it might have been something he knew that no one else knew.
COAT was like a dream state, and then humanity escaped this dream state and "awakened" to self conscious beings. Thus starting the limeage of mankind.

Humans have existed before Hagoromo was born. They had free will and waged war....that's the reason why Kaguya ate the Juubi fruit in the first place.

Besides there are only 3 chapters left. I think the biggest mysteries have already been solved.
