Why did Obito have to wait for the flower/tree to bloom to use the jutsu while Madara had to absorb the tree to use it.

Obito waited for the tree to bloom and Madara absorbed it because the tree told him to. Basically so it could preserve itself after it was cut in half

You can either wait for it too bloom or do it how Madara did it. Obito.didn't know about if you absorb the shinju, IT would activate asap

Theres Two Ways basically. And I don't think you had to have Shinju absorbed, but instead have had Two Rinnegan? No?

The Shinju, or Kaguya, spoke to Madara. So Obito likely wasn't aware that he could do so.

Obito couldn't awaken the third eye because he didn't have "the power of Rinne" (double Rinnegan I supposed), so he needed to rely on the Shinju.

obito needed the flower bc he only had one rinne, so no third eye for him.

Obito couldn't handle the power of dual rinnegan so he had to opt for an alternate way of casting MT. That alt way was summoning the shinju to cast IT for him....
