Well if you think about it Naruto's constant beliefs have been shattered as he's aged. He said no one would die and Neji died in his arms. He is just facing reality despite the speech he gave Neji about fate/destiny.

Naruto was like all innocent children who don't see the world for what it is until they are older or have been involved in painful situations such as war or witnessing a loved one dying.
