From the battle with Ashura we see that Indra may be in possession of at least MS. Could it be that when Hagoromo chose his successor while weakened on his death bed. Indra got so angry that he killed the old man and this was the reason Ashura was willing to fight his elder sibling to death.

I've read 666 Satan written by Kishimoto's twin brother and there was a similar succession situation that turned out badly. The two brothers said that they like to talk about manga together, so how likely do you guys think this theory is?

Edit...It looks like people aren't bothering to read my addition post to clear this up...

First off I'm no ones 'Fanboy' these are just made up characters and i have no interest in being like any of them. Nor do i care if they lose a fight.

Now for the theory, what i'm going for here is that Hagoromo weakened himself creating the Bijuu and extracting the Juubi's shell from himself, sealing it in the moon, and sending the moon into orbit. this leaves him in a state were he can't move like obito was after getting extracted...his amazing lifefores allows him to cling to life and he is lying in his death bed slowly dying(and unable to move).

He names the Ashura as his successor and this enrages indra...In blind rage Indra draws a weapon and stabs his weakened/already dying father in the heart or head...killing him.(Indra in no way has an all out battle with his father and overcomes him.) and gains Ms...giving Ashura a reason to want to fight him to the death.

This Idea came from Kishimoto's twin brothers Manga 666 Satan.(spoiler)---- It had a similar succession between a genius older brother and non talented younger brother.(and no before anyone says it. I'm not accusing Kishimoto of plagiarism. rather i think they brainstorm together and run ideas off each other) when their father chose one as successor, the other brother went insane and killed their father...

I think he died soon after creating the Bijuu. Showing Kurama crying while he talked to them seemed to foreshadow the fact that Hagaromo would soon be dead.

What if, in the battle between Indra vs Ashura, Indra got the upper hand and when he was about to kill Ashura, Hagoromo (non-Jinchuuriki) interfered and got killed along with Ashura? That explains why Hagoromo's chakra was infused with his son's soul?

Nice replies,

Yeah it does seem like a long shot. Especially if Indra had the same uchiha love mentality as his descendants. This Idea spawned as a result of reading 666 Satan...(up coming spoiler)----------when the father chose a successor, the son who wasn't chosen went insane and killed the father.

Well, I think it's pretty much possible, but it seemed more like Hagoromo died on his own to me. I don't think he was killed in a battle anyway, I'm pretty sure he's still out of both Ashura and Indra's league. Possibly he had poisoned him or something :p

I think some posters are misunderstanding me...I in no way mean that Indra fought the Sage in an all out battle and overcame him. I was going with this...the Sage creates the Bijuu and then Creates the moon and sends it into space...greatly over extending his limits in his already weakened state. Then perhaps he ends up in that unable to move situation Obito was in once he was fully extracted...his strong life-force allows him to survive in this weakened state long enough to chose his successor(remember in this theory he is laying on his death bed unable to move)...when Indra hears his choice he rages and kills him before thinking...and gains access to his Ms through regret.

This is the situation i was going for...but like others, i don't believe it's likely.

i doubt it, probably he died right after telling them who he chose as he was on his death bed. you don't necessarily have to kill someone to get MS just have a stromg emotional response, which he would have got upon his fathers death and not being named the successor.

Is this really true? have we seen someone gain Mangekyu without killing a person close to them or being linked to someone who killed a person close to them self (Obito and Kakashi still had a link, maybe his eye evolved because Kakashi's did)
