I would think that that photo is a picture of his own Mangekyou. There is no conformation of a Spiral Rinnegan, which people keep saying, so it would only make sense for it to be his own form of Mangekyou or even Eternal Mangekyou.

his eye may have been from the Juubi's influence (since spirals seem to have connections with it) and hagoromo's power
