The bold is exactly how it works as shown in the Manga whether you want to accept it or not. The Sage's sons chakra being powerful is irrelevant because that isn't their chakra. Like really, why don't people use common sense around here? If Sasuke and Naruto had Hagoromo's son's chakra as their own chakra this entire Manga they would've eclipsed the power of their contemporaries long before Part 2 arrived. Hashirama and Madara had their own chakra even after Ashura and Indra went on to Naruto and Sasuke.
That's irrelevant. Naruto is the MC and Sasuke is his rival. That's why they are the two strongest people in the series bar God level characters. People knew they'd be the two strongest characters long before this reincarnate business was a thing. Hashirama and Madara are the next two strongest people bar certain characters because they are meant to directly parallel Naruto and Sasuke. Being a reincarnate does not give you tangible power and that is a fact no matter how much you want to deny it.
