There is a game on PS2 call Shadow of the Colossus where the main character kills giant monsters in order to resurrect a woman who's relationship to him is unknown. As you progress through the game, the main character gets weaker and weaker despite his quest to become stronger.

One Piece is the same way. As characters become "stronger" they actually become "weaker". Think about it. Is Captain Morgan fast enough to slash Garp while wearing chains? Seems like it.

Now, you can say things like "Garp fell asleep", but how did he develop such severe narcolepsy? Ace and Luffy have the same problem, but Luffy didn't develop this narcolepsy until AFTER the events at Ennies Lobby.

Now, consider this. Whitebeard was being damaged by bullets. How can this happen if he's the strongest character in the series? Kuroobi blocked bullets with his bare skin.

"But, Minty. Kuroobi is a manta ray, so he has shark skin". Oh, really? What is Tom?

"Kuroobi's skin on his fins are extra strong". Oh, is that so? Franky didn't seem to get hurt much, did he?

"Well, maybe Oda changed how effective guns are later in the series". Oh, really?

"Maybe fishmen just have strong skin due to scales". Oh, really?

How is it that far weaker characters can completely tank attacks that stronger character die from? "Minty, you can't compare them because they're different characters and may have different strengths". Well, let's look at Luffy alone.

Luffy was completely unmoved by bullets, but was pushed back by bullets when he became stronger. Coincidence? NO! Gol D. Roger was the strongest pirate, but what happened when he rose to power? He contracted an incurable disease. That isn't the only imagery. He was executed in the weakest of the four blues, East Blue. When WB became the WSM, he became sick too and needed to be hooked up to tubes to stay alive and needed nurses on board in the same way Roger needed Crocus.

The pursuit of power leads to destruction.

That's why Buggy remained weak and was still able to face admirals and Mihawk without any harm.

You sure it's just "something" that doesn't makes sense??? For me it's like DBZ, apply logic and it fails like shit. I just read it for entertainment and comedy and recently even that is meh... IMO

GTFO hater. Why do even still read/follow one piece if you don't like it? :|

Just leave him alone, this sad little man always appears in the OP section as soon as he sees a opportunity to post something negative. ekichi onizuka and Hixa something will probably come and troll too.

About the bullets thing, it's more like they are not effective in a battle situation but once held at gunpoint and defenseless they become dangerous. I want to see how van Auger and Yasopp will deal with this.

Some guns have different firepower?
And WB was in Marineford lol, the place was crawling with Vice Admirals who have haki... gun+haki means amplified dbullet.. unless u counted whos bullets actually hit WB that point is extremely invalid, aslo WB might have known he would not get out there alive anyway so , his only purpose was to save ACE, he is not stupid, he knew logically MF would become his grave so he would not bother would bullets, he was also sick which prevented his use of Haki to.

yup same as wb was hooked to the bottles,
but i still wonder if wb was one of the yonkou and has the haoshoku haki then y he didnt use it and i also think that inconsistencies are not just in this anime but at least more popular nd long once
in Naruto too ,sometimes naruto is shown dumb or somewhat smart.

Well, that's not a surprise. Every story has its flaws, especially the ones that have been running over a decade, and One Piece isn't an exception.
Inconsistencies might be here and there throughout the series, but those tiny details can't be a factor for me to dislike the series as a whole.

interesting. i see it as the stronger the opponent the stronger the fire power hehe. like a sword.

i think with the wb case, they showed that bcuz it's bb's crew. not just some ordinary fodders. but hey... wb couldve still used armaments to tank all that shit tho.

Might be onto something there, with the Roger getting the disease and Newgate and his sickness thing ;) nice work.
Although about the consistencies thing everything has them.
It's impossible to make a story as good and long as One Piece and not have them.

You say you are not a hater, but Minty why are you than nitpicking -again- on such trivial matters that have barely or no influence whatsoever on the story and are so vague you can assume countless of explanations for them?

1) Garp was asleep, got cut and when he woke up was barely fazed by the slash he had on his chest. He might have found Morgan just that weak that even sleeping and being cut by him makes no different or IMO it was simply something for comedic relief. Nami and many other characters have been hitting Zoro, Luffy, Sanji etc. countless of times while they are far stronger, and punches shouldn't even work on Luffy, just because for comedic relief.

2) It has been shown that fishmen are extremely diverse and that many even have unique properties. So he simply can stop bullets with his fin. That fin might be as strong as bone or steel or whatever, he is also a martial artist, so it might be something unique to him. I don't even get why you are moaning about this nor why you are involving Franky into this as his back was his weak side at that point. Only his front side was reinforced. The fact that he used his fin to block, can also be considered an indication there is a difference between his fin and the rest of his body. At that point his muscles were also under pressure.

3) Luffy might have been off balance, the caliber of gun might have been higher/lower, the distance the shot came from might have been shorter/longer, Luffy's sandals might have had some mud on them, making them slippery etc. You can found hundreds of explanations for it, but it's so insignificant you can just assume such stuff as it would be a waste of space to focus on it. Except you then, for some reason you find it somehow worthwhile.

Why the hell are you bothering with this kind of stuff? Insignificant, pointless and then you start claiming you are not a hater -.- very believable.

Just leave me alone. You always manage to find a reason why my threads are not worth making. Go do some proper admin jobs, there are countless trolls / repetitve threads that need dealing with. Your like a policeman, focusing on robbery when a murder is happening right next to you.

On topic : Cool discussion. Keep it going :)

This thread doesn't make any sense to me.
I really don't see any pattern or plot behind this bullet/guns/strength connection you try to make and sure not any plot hole or inconsistent.
For me all the scenes mentioned can be explained if you take into account the whole behind each situation.
As for the pursuit of power let me remind you that Luffy is using power as a mean to reach his goal, wich is not power but freedom.

Those can easily make sense

But yes there are inconsistencies in OP, the ones you listed aren't, you should have mentioned Haki, that is clearly a big one

But as many have said Op has so few of them for a 750 chapters long story that they don't even matter ;)

To be fair, WB had HUNDREDS of bullet and sword wounds and dozens of cannon wounds, as well as other wounds from the battle.

Also, different guns and bullets can have different levels of strength and effectiveness, the same way how different swords can have different strengths. Case in point, Zoro couldn't cut steel, but he broke swords early on. Also, Mihawk's Yoru cut Zoro's two generic katana, but couldn't cut Tashigi's sword. Quality varies.
