These 3 always stood out among all my favourites. I am wondering which of these you would chose as the best and more importantly why. As for me in the top 3 the absolute winner is LOTR.

The Dark Knight for me, followed by Inception

The Dark Knight was such an amazing film from start to finish, even if I watch it again, it still enthrals and I know what will happen. It is my favourite film. The character of the Joker was phenomenal, his plan and the way the entire film panned out was perfect. Cannot wait for the Dark Knight Rises. And I was never a real Batman fan, in fact I hate the first Batman movie with Jack Nicholson as the Joker, I thought that was awful.

The Dark Knight.

As for why? It's Batman, so it already grabs my attention. Add on the fact you have amazing acting, my favorite villain Two Face, Joker, and a great story+director, and you have yourself a Batman movie. It's regarded as the best Batman film of all time. Is it my all time favorite? Maybe, but I love 89 alot, aswell as Begins. However, out of these three great choices, I pick The Dark Knight.

All films have the same factors. Top notch, but Dark Knight being Batman and having Two-Face, just gives it the edge.

I love those three as well. LOTR wins though.

The one that stands out is LOTR. The trilogy was like an art piece. The fantasy atmosphere, the scenery, (the ELVES!), the music, the dialogue (accents and poetry), and the story itself! It just took you to a different world! It's the one out of the three I could watch a million times and not get sick of.

And I think, although it missed a lot of details, it was pretty accurate to the books - when you compare other books and movies.

Although I liked Inception a lot; it's story, meanings, good ending, the soundtrack, acting, etc, I feel it doesn't 'pop out' like LOTR. Maybe because it was exploring ideas (dreams, symbols), not really showing a whole different, imaginary world. Who knows, I can't really explain, but it's much 'flatter' than LOTR.

I feel the same way about the Dark Knight as I do about Inception. The dialogue in that movie was really great; and the pace. I also really loved the dark atmosphere. But it still doesn't 'pop out' like LOTR. I guess maybe it's because your stuck in the tiny city of Gotham, into the world of crime and vigilantes. Maybe it's because it lacks the 'fantasy' in LOTR. In a sense, it's more realistic. xD

Don't really know if that explains it >.> ' maybe it's because I just like that [LOTR] fantasy style better.

I may not be a big fan of the Lord of the Rings but I'll admit that it's one of the biggest cinematic pieces ever done. On the other hand are two movies which are 2 heavy favorites of mine - The Dark Knight and Inception - helmed by perhaps my favorite director of this last decade, Christopher Nolan.

If the question was which one was my favorite, I'd say The Dark Knight sincerely but since you asked about who's the best, I'm in a certain fix. In fact, I think there's no way I could make a decision without being biased.

Anyways, I'd like to say, first of all, that I find it a bit unjustified that LOTR Trilogy was compared with individual movies like Inception and Dark Knight. Obviously, I think a compilation of all 3 movies of LOTR is overwhelming for almost all single movie. Atleast, the question would have been more fair if asked after Dark Knight Rises is released; thus comparing the Batman Trilogy with LOTR Trilogy. Well, that's my view.

Train made an interesting point that all 3 are brilliant and notably have different atmosphere each and belong to diverse genres each. Though he find LOTR better and I don't really follow him on all points; I'd say that the genres analysis is an important factor in choosing your favorite in this type of tight question. All 3 genres - Fantasy, Superhero and Sci-Fi - are heavily underrated by Acedemy Juries and Movie Critics in my eyes. Yet, all those movie create benchmark in their respective genres and that is more than commendable.

On a final thought, I'd vote for Dark Knight because as I said, it's one my personal favorite but I won't choose the best out of the choice cause it depends on way too many factors. All are real gems.

Escorpiius pretty much wrapped that up, all three are very well written movies, absolutely masterpieces, I'm a huge fan of Chris 'ol chap as well.

LOTR however has a lot more to it, it just brings more to the table if you catch my drift. Return of The King was absolutely fantastic, the cinematic, characters, effects, story, actors, the entire layout of the film. I must say the filmmakers of LOTR were just superb.

LOTR by far in my book. I enjoyed all three movies, and they all had their high points, but the LOTR series and each individual movie was just a masterpiece. The Dark Knight was of course a great move, but Batman is a very difficult personality to pull off. Bale was alright in the first one, but I felt he fell short in the second. He was so overshadowed by Ledger that people overlook how bad he was in some scenes. Inception was another great movie, and really I can't think of anything bad that stuck out. But in the end I just think any of the three LOTR movies is better than those two.

1. LOTR
2. Inception
3. TDK

I don't think there is much contest. LOTR just towers over everything else. It has the deepest story line out of all of them. Also I'd like to say Inception is a one of the most confusing movies out.
I think I'll do everyone a flavor:

You know you want to do it...
