There are a lot of flame threads and posts that have been popping up here recently with the sole intention of bashing Hinata's character. Most of these ofcourse have no real substance nor any real reference from the manga behind them and are only there as a means serving as a coping mechanism for those fans who see their fav as a rival to Hinata. Bearing in mind - While Hinata featured in only a handful of panels, their fav has had nearly 700 chapters in the spotlight. Laughably however, Hinata is still compared to that particular 'other' character. As Hinata fan, we can work with what we are given in the manga and show how Hinata is actually a great character and refute those fabricated "criticisms".
Disclaimer:as a great mangeka he is, it's well accepted that developing female characters is not among Kishimoto's greatest accomplishments. To be fair, there is no single female character that we can all say has had proper and just development throughout the manga. Having said that, little exposure does not always mean irrelevance for secondary characters have had their rare moments to shine.
Argument 1# "Hinata does not care about anyone but Naruto"
- Absolute BS. Hinata was willing to sacrifice her love, her future with Naruto and even her own freedom when she REJECTED naruto to save Hanabi right after Naruto confessed to her. This proves without a shadow of doubt how mature and level headed Hinata is. It also shows how high family ranks in her heart. Above Naruto. Lel and your fav was going to abandon her parents to live with her crush who moments ago was threatening to destroy Kohoha establishment and everything decent.
Argument 2# "Hinata is a stalker"
This is a myth that has been debunked so many times. Yet fools who can't establishment filler from canon think otherwise. The only time Hinata was seen following Naruto is when he returned to the village after a 2 year absence. One incidence does not make her a stalker. A stalker is someone who relentlessly pursues another. You will not find an accumulation of panels from the manga so drop the fanfiction theory.
Argument 3# "She calls Naruto 'Naruto-Kun'
Not sure why anyone feels this is a weakness in character.
A) Using honorific titles Is considered praiseworthy.
B) She addresses EVERYONE formally not just naruto
C) Oro, Kabuto Lee etc all use honorific routinely. So why does hinata get singled out for using it? Blind hate and sheer ignorance of the manga that's why!
Argument 4# "she's so obsessed with Naruto" "she's blind about Naruto's imperfections"
Null. Void. Zero.
See the manga again my friends. This is what she boldly tells Naruto:
"In my eyes you're a proud failure! When I look at you, I get an intense feeling in my heart. Because you are not perfect… Because you fail… you have the strength to get back up… Because I believe that's what true strength is…"
This shows her ability to analyse people well, her objectivity and above all, her honestly. To this day *imo* this is the best description of Naruto in the manga.
Argument 5# "She didn't care when Neji died - She only cared about Naruto"
This is an example of selective reading at its finest. Hinata was able to put her grief aside and talk sense into Naruto. She understood Neji's heroic sacrifice and was so upset with Naruto for doubting himself that she slapped him. Her epic speech demonstrates that a that moment, Neji and Neji alone was at the forefront of her mind.
"Neji just said… that your life is not just your own anymore… Do you understand what he meant? Your words and desire to not let your comrades die… Neither of them are lies! What inspired Neji and carried him this far were those very principles! It's not just you, Naruto… we all hold those same words and feelings within our hearts. They're what bind our lives together and make us comrades. If we all give up and discard those words and feelings now, Neji's sacrifice will have been for nothing… And that is when your comrades truly die, for you are no longer comrades then. That's how I feel… Therefore… stand up together with me, Naruto… Because never going back on one's word… is my ninja way too!"
The above demonstrates
- she knew more about neji's evolution more than anyone else.
- she spokes his feelings
- she communicated his legacy
- she gave Naruto a TnJ worthy of Neji's legacy
- she carried Neji's legacy through her children.
Argument 6# she's useless
Just because she's not a main character does not mean that she is useless. She rarely was shown in the manga but when she was:
-In part one - Naruto admitted his low self esteem to her. She gave him a pep talk and he was thankful to her.
-She saved Naruto when he was virtually at death's door against pein.
-she encouraged her team mates to give it their all at the start of the shinobi war.
- she led the Hyuuga on the front line
- she save naruto twice in the war
- she fixed Naruto's shoulder
- she encouraged the k11 to all aspire to rival naruto and aim to become hokage!
Argument 7# She's can't talk
Read the manga again. If too lazy see the examples abive of her speeches. She was able to TnJ the TnJ expert. She spoke with eloquence and composure times in the manga where others were stunned into silence by fear. She spoke and others listened. In the presence of the likes of Pein and madara and now Toneri.
Most common "arguments / criticisms " she's an ugly alien.
Really? A) Beauty is subjective. B) you can't tolerate aliens yet you read shounen?
I arrest my case.
