Okay lets start this torture, sorry training...now do the following

I take out my katana and hold it out in front of me. I place my hand on the hilt of the sword and the dull side of blade. I then channel my fire chakra into my blade. It glows red and begins to heat up, i channel more chakra and extend it outward and into the distance.

Advantage: it is as thin as a sword, can extend the reach of your sword. S rank can match s rank lightning, S rank wind, A rank water
Disadvantage: can only be used once, you must have two hands one the blade.
Scenarios: Someone shoot a blast of lightning or wind at me, i spin the sword in a circle and extend it's flames blocking the attack. Making me look cool
Possible: I'd use this more defensive purposes or counter
How i'd counter: Water Bullet:

I stick my blade in the ground and extend a flame into the ground shooting me high into the air.

I'm not sure if fire affects lightning Anyway, that's pretty much it, although, take note of the penetration power, like a hot knife through a butter, this could slice anything, and to answer your question, no you wouldn't be shot into the air, rather, the fire would pierce through the earth and continue downwards, and you'll still be standing were you are well then, you can add it to your thread^_^
