Was going to post this in the VS Section but it better applies here. In canon battles and also in terms of personality.....which characters will run away and take cover the most? And how much should we factor this into VS threads?

It doesn't have to be straight cowardice, but a fighting style that allows them to get some distance, stay safe and get defensive too.

Kabuto, Hanzo, Black Zetsu and Danzo will all dart at the first sign of trouble. They usually have a contingency plan but that self-perseverance is something I like in my characters.

Aside from the above mentioned, I'd say Kidomaru and any puppeteer like Kankuro

I'll throw a wild card out and say Shino. He, himself, doesn't do jack shit. He let's his bugs run the show while he hides at a distance.

Which isn't necessarily bad in the shinobi world. Range fighters would likely survive longer and be more effective than taijutsu fighters unless you have hax abilities like Kimimaro and Minato or dojutsu/SM.

In shinos defense tho, like Shika, he’s not scared to get in close when he has to

Even Shikamaru will get close and personal when he can form a strategy where that makes sense. Remember when Hidan called him a pussy?

Might've been filler but Shino can even bust out some decent taijutsu. He needs to initiate close combat for many of his early fights in part 1. To screw up Zaku's arm and making the bugs meet to poison Kankuro. He only became mid-long range in Shippuden for some reason.

Ino always requires distance, Temari always avoids close-combat.

I'd say tbose who use shadow clone as their primary fighting tool(not Intel gathering) they're not good enough without them.

Weak bait. Boruto, Tobirama, Itachi and Naruto always throw themselves in there along with the fakes. This is like calling Limbo clones cowardly.

You didn't read my post or didn't understand it either way, Itachi and Tobirama fall under the category of Intel gathering since they don't use shadow clones for primary combat and thaijutsu assistance etc.

Plus, Itachi just tends to stay away, use his crows, and hit his target with Tsukuyomi. Sometimes he'll show off his other stuff, but he's the type to stay back and take down his opponents with genjutsu or any other evasive method.

Exactly my point Itachi doesn't need to do much past genjutsu solo his preferred method of combat.

Naruto has just as many instances of him using shadow clones to gather data or try out a strategy. He does this at least against Kakuzu and Pain. It's a weak point.

Not really the point Intel gathering can be done by everybody via the shadow clones. Kakashi is the most famous for using shadow clones to gain Intel on opponents. Naruto primarily uses the shadow clones in combat to cover for his deficiency outside of Intel gathering.

Naruto uses clones to learn mid-battle. Full stop. You are incorrect.

It's why he didn't die against Kakuzu and Pain. There are many instances of this in Shippuden and probably some in Part 1. So your point falls flat when he uses them how you described others using them.

Plus? Naruto is always in the close combat with his clones too, so I really don't get how you can refer to it as cowardly or defensive. It's really headstrong and involved, just a means to overwhelm the opponent.
