Sharingan can counter Genjutsu so it is impossible to use Genjutsu upon someone with the same eyes (E.g. Sharingan - Sharingan). Their not immune, as they can be still caught in Genjutsu.

It's also what makes me wonder. Maybe they didn't have perfect control of the sharingan(i really doubt it)? Or something is wrong in Itachi's sentence

You are reading it wrong, when Itachi say same eyes, he is implying multiple people using izanagi. Interrupting or canceling each others jutsu/fate. Not the fact that they are all sharingan users, the fact that they are using izanami on one another should debunk your initial theory.

Since this was right after his explanation of Izanami and Izanagi, my guess, and what would make sense is that is has something to do with only those two jutsus, like a normal Uchiha cannot put a genjutsu on a Izanagi user or something like that. Or it's a mistranslation, because it has been shown constantly that Itachi and Sasuke have used genjutsu on each other regardless of the fact that they are both Sharingan users.
