Naruto is my favorite story, but I cannot deny this one blaring flaw. The inability for Kishimoto to kill off main characters. This isn't just Naruto, but just about all the major shonen have an issue with this, but the thing that makes Naruto stand out more is that it had so many ****ing major characters. Instead of shoving them too the sidelines let them give more meaning to the themes in the story by letting them die as a sacrifice to their movement of the plot. Choji dying would have been heartbreaking and made his character less of a joke, it would have given many more respect for the series if they just let him die in Part 1. Neji and Kiba could live, but Choji's death was just so perfect there, should have left that emotional scar, stories need stuff like that or else you start thinking the character's are too safe.
Honestly I think the lowest the story ever sunk was when Chiyo revived Gaara, that was such a cop out imo. I love Gaara, but that was so forced. Could have bent the rules of the Jinchuriki extraction so he could survive with extensive medical procedures, then have Chiyo die during the fight with Sasori by one of his attacks, that would have been infinitely better and more impactful and less forced.
Asuma died, good.
Jirayia died beautiful.
Now Pain killing almost everyone in the village, people were loving the series at this point hailing it as the king, it had BALLS killing all those characters. But then they pulled the infamous Rinne Tensei and brought everyone back....I mean come on .-. I would have Rinne Tensei have been the thing Chiyo did on Gaara, you sacrifice your life to bring ONE person back from the dead. All those loses were pretty sad but acceptable, except Kakashi, we couldn't have Kakashi die.... I would have had Kakashi die from the nail instead of saving fatso because it would be more hardcore, he misses with his mangekyo instead. Nagato says, "I have killed many, including your sensei, I can only bring back one." Naruto remember's Hinata's sacrifice and says her, but Nagato say's she is still alive, so Naruto says he doesn't know the answer then, as it would be unfair to choose. So Nagato decides for him and revives Kakashi, remembering Kakashi's strength and usefulness toward the village. So everyone who died stays dead except Kakashi, who Pain sacrifices his life to save.
Later, when Asuma is revived as a zombie, Choji would be as well, further increasing the emotional baggage realizing Ino, Shika, Chou was no longer possible. Deidara would kill many more people than he did in the actual thing before being sealed, and one of the main character's world die in the process, maybe Shino.
The comet Madara drops would severely weaken Oonoki, but not kill him, somehow, after being healed he is notified they could not fully repair him and his time was limited. He accepts his fate and vows to die in battle against Madara alongside the other Kage. When Madara does eventually KO all the Kage, Oonoki is beyond repair and dies. Neji dies as he did.
Gai is saved by Naruto as he was, but this time it wouldn't be nearly as frustrating as it was because there would have been far less of these sort of fake out deaths in the series.
Obito would die as he did, plus Madara, Kaguya, and Sasuke vs Naruto would get longer, more choreographed battles with high end feats thrown in here and there to keep up with the epic scale of their powers.
Now the series would be perfect IMO.
