IMO, Naruto (character) has lost his feeling of inspiration

This may be controversial but i feel like Naruto's character is at his best whenever Sasuke isn't around. Does anybody remember how he was in the Pain invasion arc?

That look gives a sense of great determination and unpredictability, all the things that Naruto's character stands for. In the Pain arc, he was strictly down to business, no side jokes, no lack of concentration, his mind was set on fighting pain which is why i think that that battle vs Pain was his main highlight throughout the whole series. This was the point where Naruto had surpassed his master and was fully pursuing his ideals.

But now that Sasuke has arrived on the battlefield, Naruto's character has completely lost that feeling to me. Compared to a few chapters ago when Naruto was performing ingenious tactics created by Kakashi, it seems that everything Naruto is doing is just reckless. He's joking around and making silly faces in the middle of the battlefield when there is a huge battle going on. Naruto and co have been in danger from Obito's attacks too many times recently.

When he is around Sasuke it doesn't seem like the same character from the Pain invasion. He doesn't seem as determined and not as serious and strong willed as he was in the Pain fight. I as a fan don't receive that same feeling of inspiration from his character that I used to back in the earlier stages of Part 1. When he was with Bee, that's when i felt that feeling.

Does anyone else feel like this?

and you have to realize this isnt really naruto's fight its more of kakashi and minato's fight and naruto really doesnt even know obito at all
but with pein that whole scenario revolved directly around him

we all have that one person that can change our whole atmosphere and additude for whatever reason
and sasuke is that one person for naruto

Especially the comedic relieves are pathetic considering the situation of the battlefield.
If you lose; you are ****ed; that simple.
He lost Neji; a comrade half hour ago, thousands are dying; what is with the silly faces and stuff? I know it is a shounen manga but a war should not look like a joke from viewer's perception. Chuunin exams or land of waves arc was giving more of the tension of a battle ffs.

Really? I feel Kakashi has been more of that role throughout the series.

-He struggled against Kakuzu to hype Naruto defeating him
-He lost to Itachi to hype Itachi's genjutsu skills
-He lost to Pain to hype his strength against Naruto
-And now it's likely that he will lose to Obito as well now

Nice post. I agree with this guy. Esp. the last sentence.

Sometimes i think few characters got into such insane power scales that they need to get plot device of trolling to fail or losing the upper hand. It was the same for Naruto; he got insane boosts; yet he is getting "blond" moments for the sake of keeping the pace. Manga should have focused the development of "characteristics" more than development of power...and Uchihas. Dem Uchihas.
And Naruto does not know how to utilize high speed in a fight at a good potential. That's why his "speed" does not get trolled.

That's the problem with this series sometimes...

They try to put humour in such a tense situation, not to say it doesn't work cos One piece and Bleach do it too but at boss levels even they tone it down and give the main protagonist the character that is needed. (Determined /Serious)

In Naruto it looks kinda childish when one person is just there: talking for so long and having flashbacks Lol
