IMO madara knows about prime hiruzen, the manga even suggests this ( prince style. )

The recent chaps have showed ild age madara living under the leaf for years ever since the defeat by hashirama, that suggests hes been living therewhen hiruzen was in his prime.

Now we all know he had zetsu, those zetsu could have been secretly moving around and taking forms of certain people collecting info

It wouldnt surprised me if madara ordered some zetsus to spy and collect info on prime hiruzen

This would also probably explain how obito knew the location of narutos birth when it was suppose to be kepted in secrete, the zetsu probably located the birth site.

to summarize, old age madara living under the leaf gave zetsus orders to collect info and spy on the leaf and on the NEW Hokage which was hiurzen.

And zetsu has the power to show images to people

the zetsus could had recorded battles of prime hiruzen and showed them to old age madara

If Orochimaru was that powerful, why didn't he use Hashirama and Tobirama to attack Konoha instead? That would've been far better than having Hiruzen fight his former masters, no? And if Orochimaru was that powerful, why not fight Hiruzen himself instead of have Hashirama and Tobirama do it? The fact is Orochimaru isn't stronger than Hiruzen, and Hiruzen is stronger than Hashirama but not necessairly stronger than Madara. You're forgetting that Mokuton can suppress chakra, which means Hashirama can defeat PS with Mokuton. We don't know of a technique Hiruzen has that can defeat PS.

The reason he can beat Hashirama is that Hashirama's Mokuton suppresses chakra, so he can defeat Madara by suppressing PS and Kurama, but Hiruzen can defeat Hashirama because Hiruzen knows all Konoha jutsu and knows Hashirama's fighting style as well as jutsu. I don't think Hashirama would want a Hokage weaker than himself who isn't able to defend Konoha. Iruka stated, "Hiruzen WAS called the strongest" and Hiruzen replied, "Hey, Iruka!! Don't speak in past tense!!"
